Chantix Drug Facts

      Chantix(Varenicline)is the newest "stop smoking" drug to hit the market.  It boast almost a 50% increase in success rate over its predecessor, Zyban.  Like Zyban, Chantix is available only by prescription.  Chantix is a 12 week stop smoking program.  You start by taking 0.5mg/day, and work your way up to 2mg over the first week.  For the duration of the 12 weeks you continue to take one 1mg tab in the morning and one in the evening.

      Chantix is different from most quitting solutions in that it contains no nicotine whatsoever.  It actually works by triggering the same receptor in the brain as nicotine causing your body to not crave nicotine.  The benefit of this is that you are completely taking nicotine out of the equation.  With gums or the patch you are only substituting the way your body is supplied with nicotine. 

Other Chantix Information:

Chantix should be taken with or directly after food.

Chantix should be taken with a full 8oz glass of water.

Do not use Chantix in conjunction with any other quit smoking medications.

Chantix is not a magic pill.  It will greatly increase your chances of success, but you need to do your part as well.
